Former Thami Mnyele Foundation artist-in-residence Rehab El-Sadek is exhibiting art work at the Lumen Travo Gallery, Lijnbaansgracht 314 in Amsterdam from September 8 through to October 2, 2004. The gallery is open Wed. through Sat. from 1 till 6 p.m. and every 1st Sun. of the month from 2 till 5.
About her stay at the Thami Mnyele Foundation studio during the summer of 2004, El-Sadek says: 'During my three month stay in a diverse culture, and working in a new studio, I intended to mix my everyday life with the concept of making art. This was an attempt to familiarize myself with all that was different. I dealt with the environment from within as if I was part of it. I was living day by day, cooking, walking in the streets, and drinking coffee. I drew everything that was part of my daily life to become closer and more familiar to it. I expresses myself drawing, which developed itself into writing.'
El-Sadek covered all kinds of house-hold appliances with materials such as guaze, sand and cement and decorated them with drawings and texts.
