We congratulate Thami Mnyele Foundation fellow Option Dzikamai Nyahunzvi who will be represented at 1-54 African Art Fair, New York May 18-21
Option Dzikamai Nyahunzvi’s (lives & works in Harare, Zimbabwe) art practice aims to explore and contextualise the concept that the human soul transcends the physical realm as we engage with spiritual practices. Exuding colour, his densely populated collages are an amalgamation of figurative and abstract paintings, prints, drawings, and etchings on Fabriano paper arranged on canvas and delineated with inky lines. Nyahunzvi is constantly refining his signature technique and process yet maintains signature elements of his visual language, such as the black and white zebra stripes, an ode to his Mbizi totem (mutupo), and a symbol through which he asserts his identity. Nyahunzvi had his debut solo exhibition in 2015. The artist has since been featured in several exhibitions, residencies and art fairs both locally and internationally including presentations at Unit London and Nafasi Art Space. Option Dzikamai Nyahunzvi will be presented by Wunika Mukan Gallery.
