We congratulate Thami Mnyele Foundation fellow Dominique Zinkpè with being among the finalist of the 2023 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize exhibition!
Dominique Zinkpè was selected as a finalist and has received a Special Mention at the 2023 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize for the piece ‘The Watchers’.
In January 2023, LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize expert panel convened in Madrid to review thousands of submissions and select a shortlist of the most outstanding works, based on technical accomplishment, innovation and artistic vision.
About Dominique Zinkpè's work 'The Watchers': A towering and intricately detailed wall sculpture made of individual wood pieces, assemblage of small Ibéji figurines evokes traditional Yoruba beliefs connected with multiple births. The jury chose the work for its sculptural reinterpretation of traditional beliefs and its expansion of what contemporary craft can be.
Dominique Zinkpe's piece 'The Watchers’ will be on display as part of the Craft Prize exhibition in Isamu Noguchi’s Studio at The The Noguchi Museum, New York from 17 May until 18 June 2023.
