We are happy to share that our current resident Quentley Barbara is participating in an exhibition 'Slavernij. Stemmen uit het verleden' in Haarlem.
The exhibtion offers an in-depth insight into the family story of creator and guest curator Winston Brandon. His enslaved ancestor was brought from Ghana to Suriname.
The exhibition is about the colonial past of the Netherlands, in particular the transatlantic slave trade. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 5 themes about the background and course of the slave trade.
In addition to well-known facts and events, information that is not often shared about slavery comes to light.
Four talented artists - Larissa Neslo , Elvis Chen , Quentley Barbara and Laurence Focke - created unique visual works of art for this exhibition.
The exhibition is in provinciehuis Paviljoen Welgelegen (Dreef 3 in Haarlem), and can be visited every working day from 9:00 to 17:00.
You can visit the exhibition until 6 October.
