We are happy to share an open call for David Koloana Award 2024, named after Thami Mnyele Foundation fellow David Koloane.
The award is open to emerging, South African-based, contemporary visual artists, aged 21-35 who are not represented by a commercial gallery. Artists working in the fields of painting, drawing, printmaking, lens-based and performance-based art are invited to apply by Tuesday, 23 April 2024 (23:59 SAST).
The twelve-week residency will begin on Monday 06 May 2024 and will run until Friday 26 July 2024. The solo exhibition will open on Saturday 27 July 2024 and run until Friday 23 August 2024. This incredible opportunity is made possible this year with support from the National Arts Council, Republic of South Africa.
The winner will receive:
• Non-residential studio space at the Bag Factory for 3 months.
• Modest materials budget for art production while in residence.
• Stipend towards transport costs.
• Mentorship and guidance from the Bag Factory’s community of artists.
• Curatorial and pastoral support from the Bag Factory’s staff.
• The opportunity to participate in the Bag Factory’s programme of professional practice and artist development workshops.
• Presentation of a solo exhibition in the Bag Factory’s gallery.
