We are happy to share more about a book New Perspectives: Contemporary Art from Ghana, edited by Elisabeth Prah and our fellow Bernard Akoi-Jackson. It is published by Nuvo Publishing in collaboration with Untamed Empire Creative Studio and Hub.
The book covers the work of 60 contemporary Ghanaian artists who have been selected from across generations, genres, forms and interests. Although the initial intent was to highlight the work of some 50 artists, the project expanded exponentially to cover well over 60 artists and offers an insight into the diversity of artistic expression from Ghana. There will be a second volume to this book.
Critical essays in the book give a theoretical and historical context to the artists’ works with contributions from Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, Ama de-Graft-Aikins, Elvira Dyangani Ose, Rhoda Woets, Jelle Bouwhius, Nii Bonney Andrews and the editors. The foreword is written by renowned art historian, Kobena Mercer.
Artists featured include Betty Acquah, Dorothy Akpene Amenuke, Larry Amponsah, El Anatsui, Serge Attukwei Clottey, Fatric Bewong, Amoako Boafo, Ato Delaquis, Ablade Glover, Wiz Kuduwor, Ibrahim Mahama, Zohra Opoku, Owusu-Ankomah, Araba Opoku, Jeremiah Quarshie, Kofi Setordji, Rikki Wemega-Kwawu and many more.
