2024-06-05 | Quentley Barbara: in a group exhibition 'Slavernij. Stemmen uit het verleden’ at the Provinciehuis Zuid-Holland

safda adf afs We are happy to share that our fellow Quentley Barbara is participating in a group exhibition ‘Slavernij. Stemmen uit het verleden’ at the Provinciehuis Zuid-Holland in den Hague, the Netherlands.

The exhibition is curated by Winston Brandon and will be open until August 9.

The exhibition is about the colonial past and zooms in on the transatlantic slave trade. Brandon approached Larissa Neslo, Elvis Chen, Quentley Barbara and Laurence Focke who created the unique visual artworks for this exhibition. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 5 themes about the background and course of the slave trade. It looks a bit different than in the history books of the past. How did this trade in humans as products begin? How did European powers manage to appropriate this trade? With their works, the artists reflect on the history of slavery and enter into dialogue with visitors.

You can visit the exhibition at the Provinciehuis Zuid-Holland for free from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. On July 1, the maker gives guided tours here on the occasion of Keti Koti (The Breaking of the Shackles in 1863).
