We are happy to welcome our new resident Sharelly Emanuelson who has won the Thami Mnyele Residency Award for the second time.
She will join us in Amsterdam for the months of August and September. Sharely was selected in collaboration with CBK Zuidoost and curator Renske de Jong. During her time in Amsterdam, she will work towards her solo exhibition, opening on October 4th, as well as a publication, made in support of Thami Mnyele Foundation.
Sharelly Emanuelson materializes her observations and research related to tradition, heritage, emotions, and practices within our everyday Caribbean lives. Through filmmaking, video, installations, photography, and mixed media she gets to new understandings and methods that create knowledge production through art.
Her experience over the years has been gathered by self-initiating her own creative film and art projects, starting a non-profit art platform, executing commissioned work, receiving prices & grants, doing residencies, participating in advisory boards, and currently pursuing Academic research as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Amsterdam.
The projects she works on may vary from working with a social organization, a fellow artist, an academic scholar, a research program, a company, or even a brand. As she contributes to broadening interdisciplinary research practices within the Dutch Caribbean she also aims to foster experimentation and enhance one's imagination to creatively challenge the separation between Art and science.
