Lubumbashi Biennale

We are happy to share November programme to see Biennale de Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of Congo, organised by PICHA collective. Our two fellows Georges Senga and Jean Katambayi Mukendi are members of the collective.

The Lubumbashi Biennale, founded in 2008 as "Rencontres Picha", has become one of the most dynamic artistic events on the African continent, providing a platform for presentation and encounter for local and international artists and cultural actors.

After 7th edition, which highlighted the residual toxicity of a century of colonialism and mass extraction, the Biennale returns with an antidote to the toxocity that is eating away our society. This years edition places a particular emphasis on the thought and legacy of the philosopher Valentin Yves Mudimbe, thus providing a curatorial framework conductive to raising awareness on the issue.

With multiple revealing projects and committed curators, such as teh Valentin Yves Mudimbe library in collaboration with University Lubumbashi, "Routes en Naviagtion" in partnership with Tate Liverpool, and contributions from Roger Peet, Toshie Takeuchi and Sixte Kapenda, the 8th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennale promises to be both unique and innovative, notably with the implementation of a catalogue of teh first 7 editions.
