2025-01-13 Nella Ngingo: Amsterdam Art Season Opening Open Studio
On Jan 18, from 15:00 to 17:00, as a part of Amsterdam Art Season Opening, Thami Mnyele Foundation is excited to open the doors for an open studio day with our current resident Nella Ngingo! She will be interviewed by Rubiah Balsem, a social architect and chairsperson of Amsterdam Art. QnA will start at 16:00.
Nella Ngingo is a Burundian-born, Amsterdam-based photographer with an extensive background as a fashion model. Her experience in the industry has given her a unique ability to connect with her subjects in an intimate way, marking the beginning of her journey into visual storytelling. Her work celebrates identity, community, and the beauty of everyday life, often reflecting her journey as a queer, Black woman and her commitment to uplifting marginalized voices. Whether working in fashion or documentary, her photography is deeply rooted in her heritage.
Nella Ngingo has been selected in collaboration with Motormond and curator, researcher and a founding director of Motormond Musoke Nalwoga. During her time in the residency, she will focus on her work and research.
